CDS Summer School

8th – 12th September, 2025

The Center for Decision Sciences will be hosting a summer school during the second week of September, 2025 and taking place in Senate House, London. It will be an excellent opportunity to learn about computational decision-making within a variety of disciplines, including psychology and computer science, with each day focusing on a specific topic.

Pedagogical Philosophy

The Summer School on Computational Decision Sciences (SS-CDS) will bring together an interdisciplinary audience tackling decision making in different scientific fields. The focus is on mathematical and computational modelling, integrating concepts and methods from mathematical psychology, computational psychiatry, computational neuroscience, computational social sciences, machine learning, and cultural evolution. SS-CDS represents a unique offer in the attempt to bridge current interdisciplinary gaps in both concepts and methods.

Target Audience

The Summer School is targeted towards attendees from diverse fields (e.g., psychology, economics, neuroscience, social sciences, computer science, etc.) and career stages (masters, PhD, postdoc, and junior PI) who want to receive high-quality training on state-of-the-art methods in their own and neighboring scientific fields.

Pre-requisite

A basic background knowledge in elementary statistics (e.g., probability theory) and programming in Python/R is highly recommended to master the technical skills, but no prior experience with computational modelling is required.

Structure & Content

Attendees will benefit from content talks from international leading researchers teaching the theoretical principles of computational modelling in neuroscience, computer science, social sciences and cultural evolution, participate in practical hands-on sessions, deliver presentations to receive high-quality formative feedback from world-leading experts, and gain career advice during mentorship and EDI sessions.

Registration

Thanks to funding provided by the British Academy, Centre for Decision Sciences, and Royal Holloway, University of London, attendance to the summer school is free of charge. To apply, fill out this form by Monday, August 11th, at 10am UK time. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached.

Please note that, unfortunately, we are unable to assist with visa applications. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

*Due to high demand, we have reached capacity and the sign-up is now closed

Thanks to our Funders…
